Linda Nessel-Treen

Linda Nessel-Treen studied piano and theory at Alberta College from early childhood. Moving to Hawaii in the late 70s, she studied dance as well, while continuing her musical activities. A highlight was collaborating in a project, “A Tribute to Isadora Duncan,” featured at Hawaii's first annual festival for the National Organization for Women.

Linda later pursued jazz piano performance studies at Grant MacEwan University, and upon completion moved to Toronto, where she worked as a ballet accompanist and lounge pianist, and spent six months touring internationally with the enormously popular children's show, “Alligator Pie” (Theatre Passe Muraille). She also began scoring animated films, with one being nominated for a Genie Award (“Tako/Kite”). Relocating to the West Coast, Linda completed her BFA/MFA with a concentration in music composition at Simon Fraser University. During this period of time, her compositions were performed at CBC Studio One New Music Festival, SFU's 40th Anniversary Concert, black box theatre, and the Western Front. In 2000, she was commissioned to create a piece based on the music of the 12th century mystic, Hildegard von Bingen, which was performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

At present, Linda is active as a teacher, composer, and dance accompanist. Since moving to Denman Island, she has participated in Lulu Productions' tributes to Tom Waits, “Yesterday is Here,” and “Waitless.” Viva la collaboration!

Linda is performing with permission from the Vancouver Music Association.
